Ethnographic collection: traditional costumes of ethnic groups and peoples of India
Traditional cloths could be seen today in India in daily life, in festivals, on stage. This collection of Svetlana Ryzhakova contains various samples of traditional costumes of Meitei, Twipra, Bodo, Rabha, Dimasa, Rajbansis, Khasi, Karbi, Assamis of North-East India, as well as of peoples of Gujarat, Kerala and other states, and also silk saris of various regions. Many of this
costumes are used for theatrical and dance performances as well.
The study is done in frame of research work of Svetlana Ryzhakova in the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology, Russian Academy of Science. Fieldwork was done in frame of the project “Possession, devotion, performance: borders and interconnections of personal self-possession, worship and artistic experience in Indian artistic traditions” conducted by Dr. Svetlana Ryzhakova, grant of Russian Foundation for Fundamental Researches, 2018-2020, № 18-09-00389 .
